MEMBER LISTSERVS

The New Jersey Library Association maintains several listservs and news lists to facilitate communication among its members about Association business and library issues. Members are encouraged to use these lists to conduct committee and section business, announce news of local events and solicit information on library practices and policies.

NJLA lists are not moderated. Messages submitted to NJLA lists are not verified for accuracy and reflect only the opinions of the message authors. Authors of messages are solely responsible for content in their messages.

Special topic listservs are open to all staff members of any New Jersey library. Individuals may subscribe themselves on the listserv's page.

Postings are to be of a professional nature, dealing only with the topic of the listserv. Non-library related messages like advertising, commercial marketing messages, chain emails and product boycotts are not appropriate. Comments on various software, hardware, materials, supplies and other products within the context of a discussion are allowed. Vendors may discuss their products in the same context.

SUBSCRIPTION MANAGEMENT

Subscribing
Members will be automatically subscribed as part of the annual membership renewal and committee appointment processes to NJLA-UPDATES, NJLA-DISCUSS and the appropriate section, roundtable and committee listservs.

New members will be subscribed by the NJLA Office.

Unsubscribing
Members can unsubscribe to the NJLA-UPDATES, NJLA-DISCUSS and section lists but cannot unsubscribe from listservs of committees to which they have current appointments.

To unsubscribe from a list, send an e-mail message as follows:

Changing Email Addresses
Changes in email addresses should be sent to the NJLA Office.

MESSAGE POSTING

To post a message to a mailing list send an email to NJLA-listname@njla.org.

For Example, to post to the Publications Subcommittee listserv, enter:
To: NJLA-CMTE-PUBS@njla.org

Any member can post to NJLA-DISCUSS. Committee and Section listservs are for the exclusive use of each group's members. The Executive Board and its committees have their own closed lists.

All messages MUST include your name, library and contact information, so others know who you are and how to contact you.

NJLA-UPDATES is for the exclusive use of Executive Director Pat Tumulty for communicating with members. To suggest a message to be included in NJLA-UPDATES, send an email to Executive Director Pat Tumulty at ptumulty@njla.org

Attachments are permitted. Subscribers are strongly cautioned to scan all attachments before sending and on receipt. NJLA is not responsible for damage incurred by the inadvertent or deliberate transmittal of any computer viruses, worms, etc.

LIST ETIQUETTE GUIDELINES

Check to whom your message is being sent. If you are replying to a message posted on the list, think before replying to the whole list. Replying to the list is certainly encouraged when the information is part of a discussion. Check your e-mail program's settings to see what is the "Reply" address default. You may want to change it from "Reply-to" to "From" if possible.

Reply off-list if your response falls into one of these categories:

Your response is personal in nature.
Your response falls into the "Me too" category.
Your response reflects practices of your library which were created for your specific local situation and are unlikely to be of use to other libraries or librarians.
