NJLA Newsletter Personnel and Salary Guides Strategic Plan |
Statement of Executive Director to the Benefits Review Task ForceMr. Phillip Murphy, Chairman Dear Mr. Murphy, The membership of the New Jersey Library Association is following closely the work of the Benefits Review Task Force. We recognize that the issues which the Task Force is reviewing are extremely complicated. The outcome of your deliberations could have tremendous financial implications for our members. On behalf of the members of our Association I am expressing our deep concern regarding any changes to the pension/benefits system to current enrollees. Enclosed please find a resolution which was adopted at the September Board meeting of our Association articulating our position to the Task Force. To summarize our position: “We urge the Governor and the State Legislature to take no action which will result in the reduction of retirement benefits to professional librarians and other library workers who either currently receive pension benefits or who are currently enrolled in the state pension system.” Our membership believes that pension and benefits are explicitly part of the employment bond between government and its employees. They have entered this bond in the spirit of mutual respect and anticipate that all agreements will be honored. The New Jersey Library Association represents 1800 members who are currently working in the library field. We also represent the interests of thousands of library employees who have already retired and are currently receiving pension benefits. If you have any questions or wish further documentation from our organization, please contact me 609-394-8032. Sincerely, |
