The How, Why and Where Do We Go From Here on New Jersey Library Public Policy Issues

Not sure what Public Policy really is, or how it affects your library?  Spend a day with the New Jersey Library Association’s Public Policy Committee and Library leaders to get a strong foundation in the issues and opportunities that challenge us! Learn from introductory lightening talks through the morning, network over lunch and stay for the Public Policy Forum update on current legislative issues in the afternoon.  This event is for new Directors, experienced Directors, Trustees and anyone with an interest in advocating for or leading New Jersey’s libraries. Learn about Public Policy resources and make valuable contacts!

Topics Include:

  • The Lay of the Land – a Primer on Oversight, Minimum Funding, the Library District Concept and Voter Approved Library Taxes
  • The roles and services of the New Jersey State Library, LibraryLinkNJ and the New Jersey Library Association with an overview of Local, County, State and Federal structure and funding streams
  • A Public Policy Can Happen to You talk and Intellectual Freedom Toolkit presentation
  • How and When to be a Library Advocate
