Adult Services Librarian, Piscataway Public Library, Kennedy Branch

The Adult Services Librarian is responsible for programming and collection development for adults, and reference and customer service to all ages. As a member of the Adult Services Department, under the direction of the Associate Director, is also expected to embrace a team approach to support outreach and special projects.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Effectively offering assistance in the informational needs of all ages, including computer support, reference, and readers advisory, with an emphasis on exceptional customer service
  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluation programs that meet the interests and needs of adults in the community
  • Selecting and maintaining the adult print and nonprint collections, with a focus on popular fiction, media, and electronic content
  • Contributing to developing the library’s local history resources and celebrating the cultural diversity of the Township
  • Interacting with community members in ways that aim to better understand the interests and needs of the community, and lead to improved programs and services
  • Representing the library at community events
  • Continuing education to update professional skills via workshops and webinars
  • Active participation in professional library associations
Qualifications/Requirements: 
  • Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program
  • NJ Professional Librarian’s Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: customer service, providing reference and technology assistance, adult programming, collection development
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff

Schedule:
The schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, including a regular evening, and weekend coverage on a rotating basis. Schedule includes time at both Piscataway Library branches.

Compensation: 
This is a full-time salaried exempt position, with a minimum starting salary of $60,217. Piscataway Public Library offers generous paid leave, health and dental insurance, PERS/DCRP, and a commitment to staff training and development.
