Adult Services Librarian - Union Public Library

The Union Public Library, serving more than 56,000 residents and conveniently located in Union Township is seeking a full-time Adult Services Librarian who will report to the Head of Adult Services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide accurate reference and readers advisory to patrons of all ages utilizing the online catalog, books, reference sources, bibliographies, databases and the Internet.
• Provide basic technology assistance to patrons using public computers or online resources.
• Programming: organizes, schedules and hosts library programs that consist of a cultural, informative, educational and/or artistic nature for adults; facilitates adult summer reading program.
• Promote programs in the media and to the public and creating eye-catching promotional materials. Must be able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
• Collection Development: purchase and maintain assigned section of non-fiction.
• Schedule includes one evening per week and one Saturday per month (occasionally more as needed).
• Other duties as assigned including community outreach, website and social media maintenance, marketing and public relations initiatives, etc



Must have at least one year experience in libraries and planning public programs, communicating with local media, promoting programs and creating flyers. OR at least one year experience as a librarian or para-professional in a public library providing services as outlined above.
Experience managing social media presence a plus. You will be asked to provide samples of programs and flyers created. Compensation meets NJLA salary requirements.
Must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from a library program accredited by ALA or one that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.
