Assistant Director, Library Services, Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA

Primary Function: To provide administrative oversight and management of the day-to-day library operations, including test proctoring, at NCC’s Monroe Campus Library in Tannersville, PA.

Responsibilities: (1) Oversight of library operations: (a) manages all library circulation functions; (c) prepares and maintains circulation and testing records and reports; (d) primary contact for Monroe library technology, working with library computer technician; (e) monitors library interior for general maintenance and safety; (f) provides reference services in the absence of a librarian; (2) Oversight of testing operations: (a) coordinates exam proctoring, including NCC Online Learning courses, NCC students with Disability Services Accommodations, NCC make-up exams, Pearson Vue exams, and ATI exams; (b) primary contact for outside institution proctoring; (3) Supervision of circulation staff and student workers: (a) hires, trains, and schedules Information Services’ Assistants and student workers; (b) assesses, implements, and revises procedures relative to the operation of the Monroe library; (c) collaborates with full time library support staff at Bethlehem Campus as needed; (4) Administrative functions; (a) Participates as an administrator, works to effectively communicate the NCC library mission, strategic plan and goals, for Monroe Campus students, faculty, staff, and community patrons and to foster library-faculty relationships; (b) supervises and schedules training of all Monroe campus library staff, and ensures updating of procedural manuals for both libraries; (c) assists Director in evaluation and assessment of overall departmental functions and with implementation of new service objectives; (d) in the absence of the Director is the administrator with full responsibility of NCC libraries; (5) Other duties: (a) works with the Director, other Information Services staff, and academic affairs faculty and staff in planning, developing, and administering quality Library Services; (b) special projects as assigned.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Director, Library Services; (2) coordinates with Associate Dean at Monroe Campus, as on-site member of Academic Affairs Division; (3) Coordinates work with all library staff at both campuses, Monroe faculty, and administrative teams; (4) participates in College committees.

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) responsibilities of the position and special assignments have been completed satisfactorily, within the specified time frame, and at a level to ensure efficient functioning of the library; (2) effective, cooperative relationships exist with college students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

Qualifications: (1) Education: Master’s degree in library or information science required; Master’s degree in library or information science from an American Library Association-accredited program preferred. (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) proven management and supervisory experience, with strong interpersonal skills; (b) proven ability to function effectively as a member of a team; (c) excellent customer service skills and ability to work with students, faculty, and staff; (d) excellent written and oral communication skills; (e) strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with the demonstrated competency to serve in an administrative capacity; (f) high level of accuracy with details; (g) ability to use technology systems and tools to support library operations; (h) familiarity with information technology and its application in a library setting; (i) experience using the library print and online resources; (j) ability to work with and relate to community constituencies. (3) Experience: (a) Minimum of 3 years of recent management and supervisory experience; (b) Minimum of 2 years of library services experience, ideally at the community college level; (c) test proctoring experience preferred.
