Children's Services Librarian, Franklin Lakes Public Library, Franklin Lakes

The Franklin Lakes Public Library is seeking a full–time creative, energetic, highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter to plan, develop, promote and provide services in an active Children’s Department serving children from infants through middle school in a town with a population of 10,000+ in northwest Bergen County. Must be articulate, customer service oriented and have a good sense of humor. Duties include collection development, creative programming, reference and reader’s advisory services, staff supervision, community outreach, maintaining electronic and online resources, and public relations.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

Applicants must also have knowledge of child developmental stages, social media platforms, current trends in library services, and an established knowledge of Applicants must be familiar with social media platforms, current trends in library service, and an established knowledge of children’s literature and materials. Familiarity with internet, social media, an awareness of ongoing technological advances and how they apply to children, and basic computer hardware and software applications is essential. 
Other requirements:

  • At least 3 years relevant experience providing reference and programming for children in a public library. 
  • ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS, MLIS or MSLS) and New Jersey Public Librarian’s certificate is required.
  • 35 hour work week. Must be able to work 1 Saturday and 1 Sunday per month, and 1 evening per week.
