Executive Board Member-At-Large Special Election

With the election of NJLA Member-at-Large Leah Wagner to the position of First Vice President/President-Elect, the Executive Board must fill her vacant Member-at Large seat.

At the first Board meeting of the new NJLA year on July 18, 2017 NJLA President Michael Maziekien and the Executive Board authorized a special NJLA election to fill this vacancy.

At this time the NJLA Nominations and Elections Committee is seeking candidates for this great NJLA leadership opportunity.

The Election will follow the Process for Special Election to NJLA Board adopted in 2016.  Please read further to learn about how our special election to fill this position will work. Even if you are not interested in running for this position, we will be contacting you so that you can cast your vote!

What are the expectations for a Member-at-Large?

  •     Candidates should expect to attend Executive Board meetings, which are held on the third Tuesday of each month. (Full schedule is available on the NJLA calendar)
  •     Executive Board responsibilities are listed in the Constitution and Bylaws in Section VII.
  •     This Member-at-Large candidate will only serve through June 30, 2018. The candidate can run for a full three year term in the Spring 2018 NJLA Election.

Nominations
The Nominations and Election Committee is accepting nomination petitions via our online form. Nominations will be accepted up until August 8th. Only NJLA members in good standing (current on their membership) will be accepted as candidates. To facilitate the nominations process, interested candidates should complete the online nomination form. A statement about your interest in the position and a short biography is required. You will also need to seek "signatures" in support of your petition to run.

After you have completed the form and we have verified your NJLA Membership Status is Current, you will be sent the link for the Support for Nomination Petitions webform.

Support for Nomination Petitions
In order for a nomination petition to be complete, it must be supported by fifteen (15) other members in good standing. Again, we will be utilizing an online form to allow you to support a candidate's petition (i.e. "sign" the petition).  All support must be registered by August 22.  Note: A "signature" of support for a nomination petition is not a ballot in the election.  You will need to respond to a separate online invitation to vote.

Election
Within one week of the close of the petitions on August 22, a separate communication will be sent to all members in good standing with information on the candidates.  Additional information will be sent out with access to cast your vote in the special election between September 5th and September 12th.

We expect to announce the results of this special election in advance of the next Executive Board meeting (September 19th at Fair Lawn Public Library), so that the new Member-at-Large is able to attend the September Executive Board Meeting.
