Instructional Librarian - Middlesex County College

Temporary, 6 months

Duration: March 1, 2019 - September 1, 2019.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides reference services to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

2. Develops and teaches library instruction sessions, in person or online, for courses from various subject areas.

3. Schedules library instruction sessions and one-on-one appointments using an online scheduling system.

4. Maintains and monitors the reference email account.

5. Assists users in the library labs with database, web, computer, software, and printing questions.

6. Recommends book, serials, and online materials for purchase.

7. Assists with resource sharing, library communications and marketing, and user materials.

8. Participates in the planning and general service objectives of the college and library, including assessment efforts and statistics tracking.

9. Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate to the position.

SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week

Tuesday evenings (3 p.m. - 10 p.m.) are a necessity for the duration of the position. Saturdays (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) in the Spring Semester are required. Other hours fall within Wednesday-Thursday (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and Friday (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) in the Spring Semester, and Monday-Thursday (10 a.m.- 6 p.m.) and Friday (9 a.m.- 5 p.m.) in the summer.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

• Master's degree in Library Science

• Classroom teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and technical skills • Fluent with library resources, print and online • Experience at a community college

Compensation: Annual, 12-month salary is $73,627.00, but actual salary will be prorated based on dates of employment (March 1, 2019 - September 1, 2019).
