Library Director- Cresskill Public Library

The Cresskill Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to direct a great library in a vibrant community. The Director will provide quality leadership, supervise and support staff, collaborate with local organizations and bring new ideas and exciting change to the library. The Director will have a unique opportunity to lead the Cresskill Public Library into the future with a major renovation project. The Director serves as administrator of the library: plans, organizes and administers the operation of the library according to the policies, rules and authority delegated by the Board of Trustees. An ideal candidate will also be responsible for the collection development and maintenance of adult nonfiction materials. Flexibility and creativity are essential qualifications to best meet the needs of our diverse community.

The Cresskill Public Library prides itself on being the center of our community by offering innovative programs and specialized collections catering to the town we serve. Today the library serves a population of roughly 8,900 residents, 82% of whom are library cardholders. Cresskill is a diverse community with a large Korean demographic, as well as a growing Israeli population. The library offers ongoing ESL classes, Hebrew and Korean collections, and multilingual programming.  The library houses approximately 59,000 items in its collection. A large number of young families take advantage of the lively children’s department, which offers a thriving collection and wide range of innovative programs for ages 0-18.


An ALA accredited master’s degree in Library/Information Science and a NJ State Professional Librarian’s Certificate are required. Experience in the administration and management of a public library is strongly preferred, in conjunction with a minimum of five years experience working in a public library setting.

Knowledge of emerging trends in the library world and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The candidate must be dedicated to improving and expanding our programs and resources.
