P-T Children's Services Librarian, Westfield Memorial Public Library, Westfield

The Westfield Memorial Library, serving a welcoming community of 30,000, seeks a friendly and enthusiastic individual to join our Youth Services Department. The qualified candidate should have a strong interest in and experience with programming, literature and services for children. 
Responsibilities include:

  • Answers a wide range of reference questions of varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Provides readers’ advisory service to children and caregivers utilizing both print and non-print sources.
  • Plans, implements, and delivers programs for children of various ages.
  • Instructs library patrons in the effective use of library equipment and print and non-print reference sources.
  • Assists with promotion of services and print/digital collections through traditional and social media platforms and outreach with the community and schools.
  • Recommends the acquisition of library material according to the unit or section assigned, taking into consideration priority needs and budget limitations.
  • Reviews and weeds library collections of books and other materials utilizing the library weeding guidelines.
  • Prepares reading lists and bibliographies for public distribution.
  • Reviews books purchased by Youth Services and determines their ideal placement within the department collection.


Week One (8 hours):
Monday 5-9
Friday 1-5

Week Two (15 hours):
Monday 5-9
Friday 1-5
Saturday 9-5


An ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science and possession of or qualified to obtain, a Professional Librarian Certificate issued by Thomas Edison State College.
23 hours bi-weekly, including one evening, two afternoons, and alternate Saturdays.
