P-T ESL and Literacy Coordinator, Englewood Public Library, Englewood

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director or designee, the part-time English as a Second Language (ESL)/Literacy Coordinator works to train tutors, schedule classes, connect prospective students with classes, as well as teach ESL or literacy classes to students. 

Distinguishing Characteristics: Position in this class requires knowledge of ESL teaching methods and an ability to build, organize, and sustain a robust ESL/literacy program.

Supervisory Controls: Works under general supervision of the Assistant Director or designee, but this position requires an individual who is self-directed.

Examples of Work

  • Schedules group and one-on-one classes for ESL and literacy. 
  • Corresponds with prospective students via email and/or telephone and schedules them for classes.
  • Works within the budgets assigned by the library administration.
  • Teaches ESL and literacy classes. 
  • Selects books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials to assist with the teaching of ESL and literacy.
  • Assists with grant proposals and seeks other sources of funding for ESL and literacy classes.
  • Works with outside organizations or volunteer groups to offer ESL/literacy classes.

Hours: This is a part-time position with a maximum of 19 hours assigned per week. Work must be completed on-site and during hours which the library is open, as assigned by the Assistant Director or Library Director.


Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English and preferably a second language such as Spanish or Korean sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
