P-T Youth Services Librarian 1, Bucks County Free Library, Bensalem, PA

We are looking for a creative and outgoing Youth Services Librarian 1 who is expert in technology to serve as a team member providing great children’s services at the Bensalem Branch of Bucks County Free Library. The ideal candidate has engaged in information sharing with colleagues and completed training and education in all aspects of children’s services, with a focus in elementary programming and outreach. Reader’s advisory and children’s programming are strengths, and the candidate should have proven leadership roles as a committee member or project team leader. At least one year of children’s services experience is required. The ideal candidate is adaptable to changing work hours and locations within Bucks County.

Duties will include working at a busy public services desk and maintaining a comprehensive calendar of elementary programming and outreach for the branch. Working independently or with the Children’s Services Coordinator, the Librarian 1 will assist with the development of new innovative county wide children’s programs with a strategic focus on outreach and offsite pop-up story times. This is a non-exempt bargaining unit position.

Schedule: Part time – 20 hours per week. Variable schedule with at least one evening per week and every other Saturday. 


Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Studies or Education preferred. However, will consider candidates currently enrolled and actively completing coursework in a Library Science master’s program
  • One year of related experience required 
  • Only candidates with a combination of education and experience working with children will be considered 
  • Experience working with large groups or familiarity with public libraries is a plus 
  • Applicant must provide on date of hire the following three required clearances: PA State Police Criminal Record Check; PA Child Abuse History Clearance; and FBI fingerprint-based background check 
  • Must have current driver’s license, insurance, and own transportation or ability to travel among many library sites
