P-T Youth/Adult Services Librarian, Union City Public Library, Union City

The Union City Public Library, Hudson County, is seeking a friendly, customer service oriented creative, energetic, highly motivated, and enthusiastic part-time librarian to join our active Children’s Department that serves children from infants through middle school or our Adult Department in a diverse urban community of 65,000+. Duties include collection development, creative programming, reference, technical assistance, and reader’s advisory services, staff supervision, community outreach, and public relations.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

Applicants must be familiar with social media platforms, current trends in library service, and established knowledge of children’s literature and materials. Familiarity with the Internet, social media, an awareness of ongoing technological advances, and basic computer hardware and software applications is essential. 
Other requirements:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS, MLIS or MSLS) and New Jersey Public Librarian’s certificate is required.
  • 15-20-hour work week. Must be able to work on Saturdays and 1 evening per week. 
  • Work experience in a public library is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
