PALS Plus Computer Service Support Technician, Clifton

PALS Plus, a consortium of 20 public and academic libraries in Passaic and Essex Counties, is seeking candidates for a full-time Computer Services Support Technician position.

  • The Computer Service Support Technician repairs, services, and maintains computer and peripheral equipment, and supports the maintenance of local networks at multiple libraries and branches.
  • The Computer Service Support Technician reports to the PALS Plus Executive Director and works in collaboration with other PALS Plus staff as well as with directors and staff at PALS Plus member libraries.
  • The Computer Service Support Technician position is full-time and follows the parameters and benefits of PALS Plus full-time employees which include paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan.
  • Work is performed at the PALS Plus office with extensive travel to PALS Plus libraries. As such, a valid driver's license and vehicle is required. Mileage is reimbursed.


  • Configures, installs, diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs staff and public computers and peripheral equipment, including routers, switches, barcode scanners, receipt printers, etc.
  • Installs, supports, and manages upgrades to operating systems and applications, including virus protection software, security programs, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Installs, configures, and tests computers and peripherals according to user and/or application requirements for installation, including network connectivity.
  • Maintains current operating system images for computers.
  • Works with vendors to diagnose and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Configures, administers, and documents Windows Group Policy on library computers.
  • Removes viruses and malware from staff and public computers.
  • Maintains inventory of computers and network equipment in member libraries.
  • Works with library directors to establish maintenance schedules and documents library’s hardware and configurations.
  • Communicates with library staff directly or through the ticketing software regarding upgrades and repairs and accurately records work history through this software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • 3 years of experience in the maintenance, installation, and repair of computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners.
  • Experience with Windows 7 and 10.
  • Excellent English and organizational skills.
  • Track record of delivering excellent customer service in a professional environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of Windows Active Directory and Group Policies.
  • Familiarity with SmartShield and Deep Freeze security protection, and EnvisionWare computer and print management.
  • Possess a strong initiative with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact with people with varying levels of aptitude of information technology.
  • Positive and cheerful disposition, a team player, and comfortable interacting with customers in person, telephone or email.
