Promoting Genre/Form Access in Library Catalogs:LCGFT Workshop

The Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT), initially developed in 2007, is a controlled vocabulary intended to descrie what a resource is rather than what it is about.  A vast thesaurus spanning several different disciplines, it can be difficult to know where to start in applying LCGRT terms to bibliographic records. This workshop will give participants basic knowledge of how to navigate the LCGFT thesarus procedures for applying terms in bibliographic records, and present  possibilities for retrospective application using MarcEdit and OCLC macros

Presenters: Colin Bitter, Head of Cataloging and Metadata at the College of New Jersey and Yuji Tosaka Cataloging/Metadata Librarian at the College of New Jersey.
