PT Temporary Teen Services Librarian - Piscataway Public Library

Piscataway Township is located in Middlesex County, across the river from the Rutgers University New Brunswick campus, and near the center of Einstein’s Alley - central New Jersey’s research and technology corridor. Boasting a richly diverse population of over 58,000, Piscataway is the home of several large corporate residents, including Johnson & Johnson, Colgate-Palmolive, and IEEE. Piscataway was recently ranked among the top ten most diverse towns in New Jersey, with significant non-white populations including African-American (20%), Asian (36%), and Hispanic (12%).

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate to fill a part-time temporary librarian position at the Kennedy and Westergard Branches from March through July, with the potential for ongoing substitute opportunities. The Teen Services Librarian, under supervision of the Associate Director, will work with the Teen Services staff to help manage our dynamic teen spaces at our two locations.

-information and reference services
-computer troubleshooting
-building relationships with teenage patrons
-managing patrons and volunteers in the teen spaces during Homework Club
-assisting Teen Services Librarians with the Teen Summer Reading Club
-other duties as assigned

Part-time; approximately 11 hours per week including, Tuesday 5:00 - 9:00 pm, Wednesday 1:30 - 5:00 pm, and Friday 1:30 - 5:00 pm. Opportunity for additional hours on a substitute basis.

An ALA accredited MLS (or equivalent) and NJ Public Librarian Certificate are preferred. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students who have completed 9 credit hours.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for working with young people in grades 6-12, exceptional customer service, a strong knowledge of current computer technology, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
