Public Relations and Marketing Awards

DESCRIPTION: This award is open to New Jersey academic, public, school, and special libraries. All New Jersey libraries are encouraged to participate regardless of size, budget, or technological limitations. CRITERIA: Eligible entries will be judged on effectiveness of message for target audience, originality and creativity of design, and aesthetic appeal. Program content is NOT a criterion, nor is the use of professional printing.

Entries will be considered in 3 divisions as specified below:

  • Libraries with a total operating budget of up to $1 million
  • Libraries with a total operating budget of $1 million to $4 million
  • Libraries with a total operating budget over $4 million

NOTE: Total operating budget includes staff salaries.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Branch libraries’ entries should be submitted under main library budget guidelines. All materials must have been produced during 2011. Entries not following the specified directions will be disqualified. Materials produced by Friends of the Library groups may be submitted in the appropriate category. No library may win in the same category for two consecutive years. All submissions become the property of NJLA.

CATEGORIES (Limit of one item per category):

  • Service or information literature, such as a newsletter, brochure, poster, etc.
  • Public relations campaign: an ongoing, coordinated effort to promote library initiatives. Examples include fundraising campaigns, summer reading publicity, promotion of business or local history resources, etc.
  • Program announcements
  • New Technology: interactive, web-based technology, podcasts, blogs, social networking, etc.
  • Surprise us with your creative publicity! If you have something that doesn’t fit into a category, submit it for our consideration.

Limit of 5 submissions per library. Use the online submission form to upload a copy of the item to be considered and a short paragraph describing how this public relations material delivered its message to the appropriate audience and produced satisfying results.
