YA/Programming Librarian - Cranford Public Library

The Cranford Public Library is accepting applications for the title of Librarian to serve as Young Adult/Programming Librarian in the Reference Department, a full-time position. The work week is 35 hours, including evening and weekend hours. The library is located in Union County and is a member of the Libraries of Union County Consortium and MURAL (Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries).

Primary job duties include:
•    Publicizing and promoting adult and young adult materials, services, and programs
•    Maintaining the young adult collection, including selection and weeding of young adult materials and management of the young adult book budget
•    Creating and administering young adult programs
•    Coordinating young adult services and activities with other organizations (schools, local merchants, other libraries, etc.)
•    Training, scheduling, and supervising part-time reference librarians  
•    Providing reference and readers' advisory services
•    Managing public Internet and word processor sessions and assisting patrons in the use of public Internet stations and word processing PCs
•    Sharing in the maintenance of the adult reference collection, including selection and weeding of reference materials and the management of the reference materials budget
•    Maintaining a portion of the adult non-fiction collection, including selection and weeding of materials and management of a portion of the adult non-fiction budget
•    Providing notary public service
•    Performing additional tasks related to the position as needed

Qualifications/Requirements: 

The candidate must be comfortable working with technology used in library operations and must be skilled in the use of social media. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. If the candidate is not already a notary public, he or she is expected to file an application once hired.  

A New Jersey State Professional Librarian Certificate and a master's degree in library or information science or the equivalent from a library school accredited by the American Library Association and required.
