About the Position:
Paterson Library is offering an opportunity to work with a dynamic urban library. We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, engaged Young Adult Librarian who is eager for the opportunity to advance their skills and provide enriched teen services throughout our city.

Major Duties:

  • Responsible for the overall programming for teens including planning, preparation, budgeting, scheduling, implementation, and assessment. 
  • Plan and implement innovative teen programs and activities including reading groups, homework help, instructional workshops, STEAM and literacy programs, gaming, summer reading events, maker programs, and managing a teen advisory group.
  • Participate in collection development, guided by the library's collection development policy. 
  • Conduct outreach activities and develop partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, and local businesses to promote the Library’s teen services, programs, and collections.
  • Encourage and facilitate group and individual use of the Library for class visits, research projects, literacy skills and other resources for teens.
  • Prepare displays, exhibits, book lists, blogs and bibliographies. Contribute to website and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat.
  • Supervise Library assistants and teen volunteers.

MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution, two years of recent library experience and a Professional Librarian certificate issued by the State of New Jersey. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License. This person must have a strong knowledge of current library technologies and demonstrated experience using technology and digital resources. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential.
