Youth Services Librarian, East Brunswick Public Library, East Brunswick

East Brunswick Public Library, an innovative library serving a diverse community in central New Jersey, seeks an innovative, engaging, and self-motivated professional to join our Youth Services department to grow our services, programs, and collections serving children, tweens, and their families. This librarian will develop a full range of programs, from storytimes to STEAM activities in our makerspace, to meet the curiosity and diverse interests of youth and families. This librarian will work with departmental colleagues in collection development, selecting and maintaining materials including books, apps, emerging technology, and lendable nontraditional items such as telescopes and sewing machines. This librarian will embody a community engagement mindset to create and strengthen relationships between our educational partners and other community groups who serve youth in East Brunswick

Like every member of the department, this librarian will be expected to be a passionate advocate for the information needs of youth and families and to be inspired to develop creative programming and services for East Brunswick’s children and families. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, forward thinking, and driven to promote our library’s values in our community. This candidate will be supported in their desire to take advantage of professional development opportunities in order to be bring back innovative ideas in Youth Services to our library. Finally, this candidate will demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for working in a collaborative team environment both within Youth Services and across the library in order to advance the mission of the library.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

A Children’s Librarian must have a Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school and certification as a Professional Librarian issued by the State of New Jersey. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students.
