FY15 State Budget

Governor Christie has recommended flat funding for library programs in the  state budget beginning July 1, 2014.  If enacted, it will be the fifth straight year that library funding has remained flat.  The proposed budget is 20% larger than the FY11 budget.

New Jersey's Libraries: Community Assets

Libraries are essential community assets. Ensuring that the residents of New Jersey have strong, relevant library services to meet the challenges of the 21st century requires a funding partnership between local libraries and the state of New Jersey.

The American public values library services.  A recent Pew Research survey found that 94% of Americans say that having a public library improves the quality of life in a community.

Filtering Software and Other Restrictions on Internet Access

NJLA affirms the right of all users, regardless of age, to have unrestricted access to the Internet. The policy of the New Jersey Library Association is that people should be able to read whatever they want in a public library, so long as it is legal. Libraries may provide software filters for individuals who want tools to limit their own personal access to materials on the Internet, but NJLA opposes the deployment of filtering software for the sake of restricting general access to the Internet.
