Job Description:

Overview: The part-time Cataloger is responsible for assisting other Main Office personnel with
an assortment of tasks that may pertain to but are not limited to cataloging,
electronic resource maintenance, and ILS maintenance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Ø  Implements system metadata and cataloging policies, standards, procedures and workflows for new materials and many formats.

Ø  Creates original and copy-cataloged MARC records and order records for materials submitted for catalog entry in compliance with RDA, MARC, LCSH standards and local cataloging policies.

Ø  Assists in preparing cataloging metadata for loading into the Main integrated library system (ILS)

Ø  Conducts maintenance of already created records as needed.

Ø  Assists with regular ILS maintenance tasks.

Ø  Assists staff members with various office duties or special projects.

Ø  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience & Certification:

Ø  Five or more years of library technical services experience

Ø  Master’s degree in library science strongly preferred

Specialized Skills:

Ø  Strong understanding of MARC formatting principles

Ø  Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel and Word

Ø  Ability to proofread for punctuation, spelling and grammar; excellent written, organizational and oral communication skills

Ø  Experience and comfort with an integrated library system (Koha preferred) and cataloging utilities (BTCat, SkyRiver, OCLC preferred)

Ø  Proven track record of multitasking

Ø  Ability to maintain confidentiality

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The position is scheduled for a variable work week and requires the ability to work on a flexible schedule. Main is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is not subject to the “New Jersey First” state residency requirements.

Work is performed primarily at the Main Office located at 16 Wing Drive in Cedar Knolls and remotely. This position requires the ability to have transportation to periodically make library site visits and attend meetings outside the office.

Work is performed primarily in a busy office environment or remotely while sitting at a desk or computer station, or while standing for extended periods of time. Periodic or extensive work from home may be necessary. Physical exertion may be required to lift office supplies and library materials up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The need to respond to competing needs or meet deadlines could cause stress at times. Equipment used includes computers and various office machines.

Compensation:

Ø  Hourly wage commensurate with experience, but within the $20-$25/hr range

Ø  Not to exceed 18 hours per week
