Job Description:
Part-Time Young Adult Librarian
Location: Oakland Public Library
Hours: 18 hours per week (includes one evening a week and some weekends)
Pay Rate: $35 per hour
The Oakland Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Young Adult Librarian to engage and inspire teens in our library. If you’re passionate about connecting young adults with great books, technology, and meaningful programs, we’d love to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead engaging programs for teens (e.g., book clubs, gaming events, STEM workshops, etc.)
- Provide reader’s advisory and assist teens in finding books, digital resources, and homework help.
- Collaborate with schools and local organizations to promote library services.
- Maintain and curate the YA collection.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive space for teens in the library.
- Assist with general library duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- MLS required.
- Experience working with teens in an educational, library, or community setting.
- Knowledge of YA literature and digital trends.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
