What is the position title?: Director - Garfield Public Library

The Garfield Public Library, a member of the BCCLS consortium, seeks a dynamic library professional to lead the library into a new era of service.

Working with the Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Library, including: oversight of an annual $1.1M budget; manage staff of 10; work with an active Friends group and Foundation; supervision of the library’s collection, services, and programs;  work cooperatively with local officials.

The ideal candidate is an imaginative leader, enthusiastic about meeting the challenges of current public services, improving our collection and access to it, increasing our programming, and expanding patron involvement.

Qualifications:
· ALA accredited master’s degree in Library/Information Science as well as NJ State Public Librarian Certification (or eligibility);
· A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the public library sector, with proven upper management administration and/or supervisory experience;
· Clear knowledge of best practices in technology, personnel management, library-specific policies and procedures, budgeting, and purchasing;
· Ability to exercise judgement and resolve conflict situations in a calm and constructive manner.
· Exceptional oral and written communication skills, and a familiarity with public relations best practices;
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with Board members, municipal and school officials, local organizations and the public.

Salary and Benefits
$103,000, plus a generous benefits package.
